NatureWell approach

Natural Academy’s team have developed the NatureWell approach from over 14 years of working with people’s health and wellbeing in natural settings. It is rooted in supporting people and nature to recover and flourish together. We offer short professional development training for organisations and bespoke support packages following the training.

We have evaluated and learned what most benefits people’s health and helps them really connect to nature. We have also delved deeply into the evidence, and together with our experience on the ground, have found ways to deliver this approach simply, flexibly and effectively.

As NatureWell expands and develops we are partnering alongside a team of very experienced practitioners and trainers to offer our accredited training, service design and support programme.

Who we work with

Natural Academy work across the UK with a range of large and small organisations from the health and environment sectors. What they have in common is wanting to create, or further develop, nature-based approaches to health and wellbeing that are professional and effective.

Our NatureWell services are delivered across multiple locations around the UK and this exciting expansion of the nature-based services fully supports this as an integrated solution to our health and environmental challenge.

What we offer

Natural Academy offer short accredited training in the NatureWell approach that will upskill individuals and teams to deliver locally appropriate and professional nature based services. These courses can be a blend of online and in person as well as being delivered in your local area.

The training focusses into two main areas and you can choose one or both.

They are linked together through community engagement in nature and health and more details on this are in the brochure below:

1

Nature Health Facilitator

6 Days training for people working with individuals or groups with specific health and social care needs. This is sometimes called Green Care.

2

Nature and Community Connector

4 days training for people working in nature focussed, community engagement programmes that promote nature-based health and wellbeing.

“Their training is unlike any other we have done before. It is experiential, mind-opening and revitalising. The depth and breadth of Rhonda and Michéal’s experience is obvious in how they are able to weave the nature based thinking and practices into a format that fits the realities and demands of the service we work in. They understand and value the work we already do and nurture our own nature connection and wellbeing as practitioners. By offering easy to implement practical activities and session planning ideas, alongside insights from ecopsychology theory, they are enabling us to enhance and transform the service we offer.”

Dr Catriona Mellor Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Sustainability Committee.

“Somerset Nature Connections is a partnership project between Somerset Wildlife Trust and the three Area’s of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset. The project supports people experiencing mental health issues to find deeper connections with nature and wildlife through weekly sessions (that people are referred/self-referred into)and more targeted community projects organised with specific groups of people, who may more at risk of developing mental health issues. The team at Natural Academy have been involved since the beginning and have helped to shape the project by formally training staff, through ongoing staff support/reflection, as well as providing more strategic support and direction.  Their vast knowledge and experience have helped us to develop our project identity and as a team we are looking forward to further, more specific staff training this year, as well as Community Connector Training for some of our partners and volunteers that we are currently working alongside. The team have worked flexibility to support us throughout the pandemic and through staff changes, listening to our needs and working with us to continue to grow and evolve.”
